This is the second release by the Twangjackets, a trash-surf duo, that hail from Mannheim in south-western Germany. It is decidedly quirky and I like it.

Brain Swamp: It begins just like a hundred other surf instrumentals and the riff is one note away from a very famous Roy Orbison track. But then the vocals kick in and take the song in another direction entirely. The vocals are rather like the bastard offspring of Nigel Lewis and Fred Schneider of the B52s.
Centipede Stomp: A much slower track featuring a zither, a nice surf guitar riff with a hint of the Dick Dale about it as well as hints of Paul Fenech solo work. There is a nice reverb effect on the drums.
Hitchhiker from Outer-Space: Begins a bit like the Meteors’ Blue Sunshine, it’s a good song with a catchy chorus.
This is a rather charming, comparatively low-fi ep, by this dynamic German duo. There is a tremendous sense of fun surrounding this project and it is evident that the band does not take itself too seriously. I salute them and look forward to their next instalment.
