In honour of this week’s Zipheads Takeover, we present to you our list of our favourite songs from The Zipheads!

Don’t Pretend

This is a perfect slice of country-tinged rockabilly that has been in the band’s repertoire pretty much since day one. It appears on the band’s first album Pre-Historic Beat and it is an absolute gem.

Last Man On Earth

This was a single from the second album Z2 Rampage, and it is quite a phenomenal track that features a tremendous, surf-esque guitar riff. A quick search of this song on Youtube also reveals a rather magical video which sees the band in Mad Max style post-apocalyptic garb rocking out to this classic.

Incestuous

This is my favourite track from the most recent album ‘Rock and Roll Renaissance’. It is quite a punky number that retells the story of the joys of living in a smallish town. It is splendidly melodic.

54-46 Was My Number

This is, of course, a cover version of the Toots and the Maytals’ classic, but if ever a band made a song their own, then this was it! The song is transformed from a slowish piece of reggae into a fast-paced rockabilly gem – it’s genius!

Dinosaur Rock

This is another track from the first album. It is probably most noticeable for Ray’s fabulous verbal dexterity, but it also has a wonderful melody, a feature of all Zipheads’ songs. The song also has a nice video to accompany it.
