Here we have the latest release from Dutch psychos, Frantic Vermin, this time it is a mini-album consisting of six tracks recorded at Western Star. I must say at the outset that I rather like this.

‘Hell Yeah’ evokes images of the Meteors, it sounds a little bit like Blue Sunshine in places. It is very well-played and recorded and makes a great impression as an opening track.

‘Chasin Dreams’ features a bass run rather like Oliver Baroni’s on the Hillbilly Moon Explosion’s ‘Buy Beg or Steal’ there is also some nice guitar work. The song is sung by bassist Marcel Sonnevelt who also wrote the song.

‘The Shrew’ begins with a Bo Diddly style strummed guitar but has perhaps more in common with Wilko Johnson, it is a very good track.

‘Afterlife’ begins in very sedate fashion, it is an atmospheric song sung by Marcel Sonnevelt.

‘This Ain’t No Rock n’ Roll’ has a sort of Magnetix feel to it. It is really, rather good.

‘Blue Skies’, here is some lovely guitar picking on this instrumental track.

This is, to mind at least, the best recorded work by Frantic Vermin to date. I would recommend it highly to all those of a psychobilly persuasion seeking some new tunes.
