Sometimes, you watch a band you’ve never heard before and just think…wow. The energy and vibrancy that Prison of Blues bring to the psychobilly sound is the kind that makes you sit up and listen, and if you haven’t caught them yet, you’re missing out.

“Prison of Blues is a Psychobilly/punk band from Temanggung, Indonesia,” says vocalist Bowo. “Our role models are Demented Are Go, Mad Sin, Indonesian horror movies, and local horror creatures.

I got to know psychobilly from my friend’s collection who is a rude boy in Indonesia. I heard several CDs such as Mad Sin, The Meteors, Demented Are Go, Nekromantix, and watched several psychobilly DVDs such as ‘Psychobilly Sickness’, and from there I started to fall in love. Finally, in 2007 I formed a band Prison Of Blues.”

Across their their rapidly growing back catalogue of twelve albums and counting, Prison of Blues have thrown in collaborations with Jeroen Haamers (Batmobile) and Titch (Klingonz) before releasing ‘Born To Be Killers’ this year. “Actually, I wrote the material for the album during the corona pandemic,” explains Bowo. “I wrote a lot of songs, and after the pandemic ended, Prison Of Blues made a major lineup overhaul, and added one more guitar player. In early 2025, I wrote eleven songs, and Bayu [our guitarist] added four songs, so we recorded fifteen songs live.” One of the massive standouts on the album is ‘Zombie di Ruang Tamu ’, a collossal, genre-smashing  ear worm of a track featuring guest vocalist Dellu Uyee. “Dellu Uyee is one of our friends. He lives in Bali, Indonesia, and we just want to a new experience in our new album, and yes he has a really cool vocal style!”

The great news is that we’re never too far from a Prison of Blues show since touring is their passion: “the best moment for me is every time we play in Europe, like in Psychobilly Meeting, Bedlam Breakout, or Psychobilly Earthquake. At every gig I find new good friends, new connections, and a lot of new experiences.  After we’re back from this tour, maybe we will do tour in Indonesia.  I will start to write new songs, and prepare for a summer tour again in Europe.”

Just another reason to be excited for 2026!
