We put our severed heads together, consulted our Ouija boards and came up with the spookiest, most spine-chilling Rock n Roll top ten for this Halloween!

‘Witch in the Woods’ – Koffin Kats

Vic Victor and pals tell us a spooky story with the moral to stay out of the forest or be faced with power-slappin bass. It’s an earworm and one hell of an evocative number! – Kate Allvey

‘No More Hot Dogs’ – Hasil Adkins

Just love the absolute crazed, madman sound of this and the association that she ain’t gonna get any more hot dogs cos he’s gonna cut her head off and put it on the wall! – Nick Constantine

‘One Sharp Knife’ – Demented Are Go

A wonderfully sinister riff. It is my favourite Demented song, written by the sadly deceased Gavin Evans. It has to be the first recording of this from the Hell’s Bent on Rockin’ compilation album with its tremendous claustrophobic production which all adds to the allure of this song. It is a gem of a song with a superb guitar solo courtesy of Dick Thomas. – Nick Kemp

‘Mi Calvera de Amor’ – Rezurex

As if Daniel DeLeon’s Day of the Dead energy wasn’t enough of a draw, we’ve got romance from beyond the grave and blistering guitar solos. Slinky skeletal gold from the Rezurex boys – Kate Allvey

‘Walk Like A Zombie’ – Horrorpops

One of my favourite songs ever! Love everything about it! The slap bass, the glam rock feel, the catchy chorus, the Rocky Horror hint! Awesome!! – Nick Constantine

‘A Very Handy Man (Indeed)’ – The Meteors

Featuring a dobro that Paul Fenech had been given as a birthday gift by his then wife Michelle. Arguably the most sinister track that the Meteors ever recorded. The song is about serial killer Ed Gein and features the lines, ‘What face is he wearing? Is it someone you knew? Or are you inside out? And is he seeing through you?’ Charming stuff! – Nick Kemp

‘Skeleton Bop’ – The Delta Bombers

Dancing skeletons might be scary, but we’re celebrating the first time we heard the Delta Bombers 2.0 featuring Pip on this track! It’s a perfect party number for all you ghosts and ghouls out there, – Kate Allvey

‘Bitten’ – Jane Rose & the Deadends

Just one of the best rockabilly songs ever, even without a Halloween connection! – Nick Constantine

‘The Monster Within’ – The Brains

A splendid slice of modern psychobilly played at a hundred miles an hour, full of energy, piss and vinegar and more than a little menace. The Title track of a superb album by the Canadian kings of psychobilly. – Nick Kemp

‘Crush The Bone’ – Killer Tone Jones

Another crazed, madman vocal. This song is based on a brutal murder by a student in Florida. Perfect for Halloween! -Nick Constantine

Happy Halloween!
