Unquestionably the hottest act to hit the psychobilly scene in some years, the Dead Shout is something of a supergroup, composed of Darren ‘Eddie’ Edwards of Klingonz and Sister Suzie fame on slap bass, Gary Voodoo of the Urban Voodoo Machine on drums, and Jack White afficionado and former member of the Bikini Bottoms, Jack Elfick on guitar and vocals.

‘Jump Bones’ begins with a fiery guitar riff before the drums and slap bass enter the fray. The song motors along with snarling vocals, there is then quite a tasty somewhat low-fi guitar solo which is composed of a sort of question and answer. The theme of the song is one of sexual craving, as the title would suggest ‘tie me up and hold me down before I do something I will regret, grab my neck and teach me tricks and turn me into your obedient pet.’ It is a very fast paced raucous slice of rock n’ roll that works a treat.

‘Drag Me Down’, is a much slower song that has a country and western flavour to it with more of the western than the country. It features a very atmospheric guitar riff and catchy chorus with Gary playing a train rhythm shuffle on the snare.

Third song ‘Love Song’ with the lyric ‘I hate everything about you’ is the most punky song on offer here, it features a distorted vocal section followed by a similarly low-fi guitar solo that concludes the song.

‘Going Cold’ begins with a great riff and accompanying vocal and has a very tasty guitar solo, the song exhibits a very sharp ear for a melody. This concludes a really wonderful EP.
